EXAMINING THE NEW MUET SYLLABUS

Beginning 2021, students will be taking the new CEFR-alighned MUET papers. In order to effectively guide the students, the English Unit lecturers attended a workshop to examine the latest MUET syllabus and exam format to equip themselves with the necessary knowledge and skills. The workshop was conducted by Ms Noor Firdaus binti Ramli @ Yusof on 8 July 2020 at Language Lab 1. Madam Umi Khalsum binti Ab Aziz was the workshop coordinator. 


ENGLISH UNIT WORKSHOP: G-SUITE FOR EDUCATION

On 15 June 2020, Dr Habibah Abdul Rahim (Director General, Ministry of Education) launched DELIMa - the Ministry's new digital learning platform. DELIMa stands for Digital Educational Learning Initiative Malaysia. Previously known as Google Classroom, DELIMa provides access to ubiquitous digital teaching/learning for educators, students and stakeholders in the fast-developing technology ecosystem for education. Technology giants - Google, Microsoft and Apple are partners in DELIMa. In line with this initiative, the Digital Classroom Committee of Kolej Matrikulasi Pahang has developed Kursus G-Suite for Education & Rakaman Video PdPC, a 6-week training programme for all lecturers to gain mastery in using Google Classroom, Meet and other media for teaching activities and student assessments. Mr Zakaria bin Bustamin, one of the designated college trainers, conducts training sessions for English Unit lecturers. Bengkel ini telah diadakan pada 19 November 2019 di lokasi Digital Classroom KMPh. Objektif bengkel ini adalah memberi pendedahan kepada semua pensyarah Unit Bahasa Inggeris tentang tatacara penggunaan aplikasi MyGovUC supaya para pensyarah menggunakan platform ini untuk meningkatkan mutu kerja.

 


DIGITAL CLASSROOM TRAINING

On 24 October 2019, Mr Zakaria bin Bustaman conducted a hands-on session for lecturers in the English Unit. During the training session, lecturers explored various menu functions of Smartboard. With this, teaching and learning process in digital ecosystem could be further incorporated and explored.


WALK & TALK PROGRAMME

In conjunction with Malaysia Day 2019, the English Unit organised this public speaking competition themed "Malaysia Day" to provide opportunities for students to further develop their confidence and public speaking skills besides serving as a platform for the participants to relate to patriotism and the Malaysian spirit. The competition was coordinated by Madam Zakiah binti Hanim and Madam Ainunazli binti Abdul Rahman.


MUET SEMINAR 2019

MUET Seminar 2019 was organised by the English Unit on 21 September 2019. The seminar aimed at helping PST students to be more prepared for the coming MUET Listening (800/1), Reading (800/3) and Writing (800/4) exam papers in November 2019. Madam Shafinas binti Sharifuddin, a MUET master trainer, was invited to conduct the seminar. The students learned valuable strategies and were often in stitches with her humour. Madam Hawa binti A. Hamid & Mr Mohd Sukri bin Salleh coordinated the seminar.

 


ENGLISH REPORT WRITING WORKSHOP 2019

On the 6th of September 2019, Madam Rosaliza binti Muhammad shared her expertise on assessing MUET Reports in a workshop for all English Unit lecturers. Being an experienced MUET examiner, Madam Rosaliza's insightful advice was certainly of great help to the lecturers.

EDUCATIONAL TRIP: BIG BAD WOLF BOOK SALE 2019@UMP

The much anticipated Big Bad Wolf Book Sale finally came to UMP Gambang. The English Unit took the opportunity to gather a bus load of students for a visit to the fair on 1st March 2019. The students experienced first hand how book lovers flock to the discounted reading materials.


INTERACTIVE WRITING COMPETITIONS 2019

On 29 January 2019, the English Unit organised this writing competitions for KMPh students who are interested in fun-filled creative writing. The activities served as a value-added platform for students develop critical thinking, creativity, collaboration & communication (the 4'Cs in 21st Century Skills).

IN-TEAM ENGLISH UNIT 2018

English Unit In-Team Course was held on 6 October 2018 at Balok Recreational Center involving all English Unit members. Their family members were also welcomed to participate in the course. Besides enhancing teamwork among the unit members, another objective of this course was to get to know the members' families. Five telematch activities were held, four involving all participants and one was only participated by children between 4 and 12-years-old.


1-DAY COURSE AT ISTANA BUDAYA

On 10 July 2018, the English Unit lecturers attended a 1-day course in conjunction with Istana Budaya's official reopening to the public. It was an enriching trip as lecturers were warmly welcomed by the national dance troupe, taken on a grand tour of the upgraded theater halls, learned about the history of Istana Budaya, and watch various award-winning artistes performing on stage.


KMPh ENGLISH ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES 2018

On July 1st, 2018 the English Unit conducted an enrichment programme to enhance students' active participation in English language activities. A wide range of language activities comprising word games, board games, public speaking, poem writing and even karaoke provided opportunities for students to involve themselves as participants and facilitators in the spirit of 21st century learning. Awareness campaign on depression was also held through digital poster competition. Adding to the festive mood was a vibrant food and apparel bazaar. More than a thousand students took part in the programme which was coordinated by Madam Wan Nor A'sikin binti Mohamad and Madam Zuraishah binti Zukri.


POSTER COMPETITION (THEME: DEPRESSION)

In conjunction with the 2018 KMPh English Enrichment Activities, a poster competition was held to raise awareness on depression. The competition was coordinated by Mr Mohd Sukri bin Salleh. Here are the winning posters.


STUDENT LEARNING

This gallery showcases snapshots of students learning in tutorial sessions. Besides developing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, the students are given opportunities to explore and develop 21st century skills (i.e. the 4C's, MIT literacy and FLIPS) through learning activities such as group discussions, presentations, gallery walk, language games, GoGreen campaign, mock scholarship interviews, etc.


MENTORING PROGRAMME

Mentoring In New Dimension or MIND 2018 is a series of value-added mentoring programme designed for students to make final preparation before sitting for MUET exam. The students are encouraged to walk-in to any of the learner-centred consultation sessions conducted by English Unit lecturers at the Tutorial Block on Mondays between 3.00 p.m. and 4.30 p.m. MIND 2018 was co-ordinated by Madam Halimah binti Mohd Hanafiah. PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITY (PLC)

In line with the college's emphasis on continuous improvement in teaching practice and student learning, the English Unit organizes teacher development workshops. On the 6th and 13th of March 2018, PLC progress report was held for lecturers to present their PLC group reports in lesson study, teacher sharing session, learning walk, video critique, peer coaching and case discussion modes. The workshops were coordinated by Madam Ainunazli binti Abdul Rahman.


ENGLISH UNIT INTELLECTUAL DISCOURSES (IDs)

Once a month in 2018 the English Unit would hold an intellectual discourse (ID) for its lecturers. The ID programme is coordinated by Madam Sharifah Noor binti Syed Mohd Alhabsi. Each ID session is planned and delivered by like-minded lecturers to share ideas and expertise in wide ranging matters such as teaching practices, literacy skills improvement, lifestyle & health, etc.


In the month of July 2018, Madam Norzahana binti Zainol share information on Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI). She talked on the objectives of CQI and how it can help lecturers to identify and overcome students' weaknesses in language skills development.
